Kate Flannery has come to the defense of her former co-star, John Krasinski, after he was named People Magazine’s 2024 Sexiest Man Alive.

The actress, 60, notably played the role of Meredith Palmer on the hit sitcom, The Office, while Krasinski – who is married to Emily Blunt – portrayed Jim Halpert for a total of nine seasons.

Earlier on Tuesday, it was revealed on the Late Show with Steven Colbert that the A Quiet Place star, 45, had received the honor – leaving fans divided.

Flannery shared her excitement over John winning the title during an interview with TMZ on Wednesday, and gushed that it was the right call.

‘Let me tell you something. This is so long overdue. John Krasinski has gotten robbed every year since 2005 in my opinion. It’s so time,’ Kate expressed.

The two stars People ‘begged’ to accept Sexiest Man Alive crown before turning to John Krasinski

‘Have you seen him lately? Have you seen him since Jack Ryan?’  she asked, referencing to the 2018 action series titled Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. ‘He is so jacked up!’

Flannery continued, ‘He is so hot, my eyes are melting everytime I see him in person. He and Emily are so good looking, I have to squint. They are – he is really, really hot.’ 

‘Is nobody paying attention? I mean, I am so glad people are finally paying attention. But I’ll tell you, I’m not drunk,’ she jokingly added. 

‘I’m telling you for real. John has always been adorable and really cute, but I feel like people haven’t seen his sexiest because he’s so cute.’ 

Kate then told the outlet, ‘So, it’s the perfect marriage of two things. Cute and hot and sexy and funny and smart. I mean, he’s much more than Jim.’ 

While also talking to TMZ, Flannery recalled working alongside Krasinski in The Office, and said, ‘John was always one of the kindest, funniest, smartest kids.’ 

‘I mean, when I met him on The Office, he hadn’t done anything. I really hadn’t done anything of note either. We all sort of became famous together, and John always had that something – that really special something.’ 

She further added, ‘He’s so…he has so many gifts. He has so many talents. He is an amazing director. He is an amazing actor.’

Following his time on The Office, Krasinski moved on to star in other projects such a A Quiet Place (2018), which he also directed. 

He also directed the sequel A Quiet Place Part II, as well as the fantasy film, IF, which was released earlier this year in May. 

Kate gushed that John is, ‘really funny’ and ‘really smart’ while adding, ‘He doesn’t have to be funny because some people have to and it’s exhausting. So, John is not exhausting.’ 

‘You see a spark in someone right away and John’s always had it. He’s always had it. And I’m just glad People Magazine is finally catching up.’

John being given the title ignited fans to have mixed reactions, with some taking to X to share their thoughts. 

One typed, ‘trump is president. ari is snubbed at the grammys and now john krasinski is sexiest man alive.’ 

Another wrote, ‘I like John Krasinski. I really do. Having said that, there were better options, People. Have you seen Glen Powell?’

While talking to the publication, the actor revealed his reaction upon learning that he had won the title. 

‘Just immediate blackout, actually. Zero thoughts. Other than maybe I’m being punked.’

He continued, ‘That’s not how I wake up, thinking, ‘Is this the day that I’ll be asked to be Sexiest Man Alive?’ And yet it was the day you guys did it. You guys have really raised the bar for me.’

Emily was also ‘excited’ upon hearing the news and he recalled that, ‘There was a lot of joy involved in me telling her.’ 

The Devil Wears Prada actress had also humorously told John that she would wallpaper their house with his magazine cover if he ended up winning.

Before Krasinski had been named People’s Sexiest Man Alive, a source told DailyMail.com that both Glen Powell and Pedro Pascal had been ‘begged’ to accept the honor – but the magazine was ‘continuously shot down.’

‘Every year the magazine has dreams of who to get, but the person they want doesn’t always agree to be a part of it. Do you really think that they wanted Patrick Dempsey last year?’

‘And for this year, just like Patrick, John is a great guy but in no way was he their number-one choice,’ the insider said.
