VAR’s evolution as football continues to expand globally will depend on its ability to adapt to a growing global footprint of football tournaments. The challenge is to make VAR systems robust enough to operate consistently regardless of location. This means investing in disconnected operation modes, intuitive user designs, and training for local officials who may have less exposure to high level technology. As an increasing number of competitions implement VAR, the need for uniform decision-making guidelines becomes absolutely essential. Consistency in decision making is essential to maintain trust in the system, no matter where the game is played.
