What’s the difference between ink and toner?

I know the ink I have purchased in the past is a liquid and webpage the toner is kind of like a powder.

The ink doesn’t seem to last as long as toner does. I prefer toner over ink because all though it may be a little more expensive it does seem to last much longer than ink.
